![]() G I Joe (2009)
To all G I Joe toy fans, the name does bring back good memories. No matter old or young, you'd remember playing with these toys and envying the one your neighbour had and you did not! So to see these toys in action, in human form, is in itself a fun experience.
The movie starts at a very fast pace and maintains the action through out. James McCullen (Christopher Eccleston), a weapons expert takes aid from NATO and creates nanotechnology-based weapon capable of destroying an entire city. However, his primary motive is not to help USA or NATO but to rule the world by using these warheads against nations and forcing them into submission.Helping him in his evil motives is the Doctor (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), who is to be known as the Cobra later on.
Duke (Channing Tatum) and Ripcord (Marlon Wayans) are leading a team of US army to deliver the warheads but they are ambushed mid-way. Duke identifies the girl leading the attackers as his ex-fiancee. The G I Joe team comes up to resuce them and in the process Duke and Ripcord became members of the G I Joe elite team. It's all steal-warheads-fight-recover-warheads from there on. And in the process you get a scene of Eiffel Tower falling because of one of the warheads was fired on it. The movie ends with the Doctor and James McCullen getting captured and locked by the G I Joe team.
If you go looking for a story and a reasoning, you'd be terribly disappointed. The movie does not offer you explanations - like how a new recruit is able to match the very best of G I Joe team in just a matter of few dyas, why the Nano soldiers could do nothign much, why the Doctor had such lax security or probably no security at all, etc, etc. So, if you plan to watch the movie, watch it for action sequences only. And remember, this movie just sees the Rise of Cobra, the revenge or work of Cobra will surely come in next few movies, so better to watch the first movie, so that you know what the story is all about! Obviously,my review is just a very basic summary of what the movie has. The movie has a lot of action and special sequences and to put them down in writing is near to impossible. If you liked Transformers, there's no way you going to reject this movie. In some ways it is much better than Transformers 2. The movie could have benefited by a better star-cast as the only let down is the bad acting by some of the front line actors. But overall, the movie is a smust watch for action lovers. |

All About Bollywood, Indian Style!
Ravi Baswani, a veteran actor of several memorable roles, died on Tuesday of a massive heart attack in Haldwani, Nainital. He was just 64 and would be sorely missed by many.
Ravi Baswani started his career in Bollywood with Sai Paranjpe’s Chashme Buddoor in 1981. His role as a student named Jai Lakhanpal, nicknamed Jomo, was appreciated by all.
The one role for which Ravi Baswani will always be remembered for is the part he played in Kundan Shah’s 1983 movie Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron. Acting as Sudhir Mishra, an idealist photographer, Ravi brough the role to life with superb timing and acting. The role create a masterpiece of the movie and has been revered by all till date. He won a Filmfare Best Comedian Award for this role.

For an actor of such good caliber, his appearances were definitely few. The last one remembers of him in a notable role was playing a grandfather in the hit Sony serial Just Mohabbat. He was an integral part of the series.
No doubt Ravi Baswani will be remembered for ever and sorely missed by all. Rest in Peace.
