![]() Kurbaan (2009)
Some Love stories have blood on them...and some movies have "blockbuster" written on them. Kurbaan is a mind blowing movie, with the right ingredients, best acting you'd ever see by the lead pair, cool music and exceptional storyline with direction.
Kurbaan deals with a subject which has taken centerstage all across the world - Islamic extremists, terror and America. The story of Kurbaan is quite simple, Avantika Ahuja (Kareena Kapoor) meets, falls in love and marries Ehsaan Khan (Saif Ali Khan). They then move back to US, whereKareena finds out that her dream husband is nothing but a terrorist and how she was conned in to getting married to him. She comes to know the plans of her evil husband to bomb several New York metro stations and together with a liberal Muslim, Riyaaz (Vivek Oberoi), Kareena sets out tofoil the plans of Ehsaan.
The movie has everything going correct for it. The cinematography, screen play, acting, background music, every single aspect of the movie is top notch. There are some let downs like some illogically lengthy dialogues and some absurd mistakes, like Kareena Kapoor not calling 911 in US to report about bombs, but then that's kind of expected in a 2hr 40 min movie.
Few years back, we had a movie named "Fanaa" starring Aamir Khan and Kajol. Fanaa too had a similar story line, the love between the lead pairs started in Delhi, similar to Kurbaan, and the male lead was shown as a terrorist, again similar to Kurbaan. However, the difference lies in the way the story unfolds in Kurbaan and the way it has been directed by the debutant director Rensil D'Silva. So, while Fanaa did nothing exceptional at the boxoffice, we might see Kurban setting the Indian Boxoffice on fire.
