Spectacular! That's one word which comes to your mind when you are leaving the movie hall after watching Avatar. James Cameron prooves his class once again with this masterpiece. If you thought Terminator was mind-blowing, watch this, if you thought Titanic was Huge, watch this and if you think nothing ever can beat the magnificence of Lord of the Ring series, definitely watch this.

Avatar (2009)

Avatar is not so much about a story line or a gripping screenplay. It's just about the direction, about the lavish looks, about the mind blowing scenes and the life like projection fo the 10 feet long "navi creatures".

First half of the movie is quite slow. A lot of story telling, no real action scenes. With all the hype that's been created around Avatar till now, you'd keep expecting something big is coming, something is coming...but first half doesn't give yopu much to cheer about. Maybe, if the hype wasn't around, one might have found first half engrossing, but you are so looking forward to huge scenes, that first half of the movie just seems a little disappointing.

The movie is set in the year 2154 and is about a man called Jake who can't walk and he is selected in the Avatar program after the death of his brother, as their genomes match where he has to go to Pandora jungle which is not a planet but it is one of the three giant gasses that is about 4 light years away from earth. On Pandora there are life forms such as the navis that are about 10 feet tall have sparkly blue skin, big eyes and tails. The humans have genetically bred human-navi hybrids known as Avatars. Jake is able to walk but falls in love with a female navi and now he has to choose the side between humans or the navis.

After the interval, the real fun begins. The fight starts with jake helping the navis to protect their motherland from human invasion. This is where some of the most spectacular scenes are shot. The nuvi forest is mesmerizing, the creatures in in superbly built. The CGI is so good and life like that you really start to see the human race as culprits and bad, trying to destroy poor navi home. Like Jack, you tend to side with the navi people, thinking in your heart that humans leave them alone.

There are several things which just don't go right for Avatar. one is the story line. Although, it's superbly shown, it's not uniform. At the end of the day, the story is just plain boring. But you won't feel it because of the way James Cameron brings it to you. First time you watch the movie, you will be amazed, second time, you'll start to think about the lousy story, and third time if you go watch it, you'd feel utterly disappointed with the movie.

The movie ends with jack choosing a Navi life over the life of humans and staying back with the navis. Probably one of the first movies ever made which shows that an alien race wins over humans and still, at the end of the movie, you feel happy about it.
