Durg lies about 11 km from Bhilai and 35 km from the Chhattisgarh state capital Raipur. Durg generally has a dry tropical weather which is moderate but on a warmer side in summer season. The peak temperatures are usually reached in May/June and can be as high as 45C. Durg comes under Mahanadi river slope and Sheonath is the main river of the district which originates from Panabaras Hill.

Durg is rich in its cultural heritage and has its own dance styles, cuisine and music. Pandwani, made famous by Teejan Bai, the musical narration of the epic Mahabharata, "Raut Nacha" and the Panthi and Soowa are some of the musical dance styles attributed to this region. (Under wikipedia GNU)

Tourist Spots in Durg:

* The Maitri Bagh- Zoo and a park established by the Durg Steel Plant. The colorful musical fountain & the accompanying    shows are quite famous. White tigers are the main attraction here.

* Deobalod- It is situated about 3 km from Bhilai and is famous for Oldest Shiv Mandir.

* Uwasaggaharam Parshwa Teerth: this is a Jain shrine in Nagpura which was established in 1995. The teerth is located on the banks of the Sheonath River. The entrance to this dazzling marble temple of Shri Parshwanath is through a 30 feet gate that has the idol of Parshwanath being worshipped by two elephants. It is supported by four pillars which represent the four essentials of spiritual atonement - wisdom, introspection, good conduct and penance.

* Ganga Maiya Temple: located at Jhalmala, 58 km from Durg.
