Medals Tally for Participating Countries of 2010
In 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games held at New Delhi, India, 71 countries participated in 17 sports disciplines. Check out the list of participating countries here.
Medals tally for 2010 Commonwealth Games:
India started its Commonwealth Games campaign with an aim of coming second and a medals tally of over 100. Eventually, both aims were met. India came second after Australia and ahead of England and achieved an Indian record of 101 medals. In the 2006 Melbourne Games, India came fourth with just 50 medals, so this is a vast improvement.
There were heartbreaks, especially in tennis, where Leander-Mahesh pair couldn't reach the finals and had to settle with bronze, and Sania lost in the finals to get a silver. India's hockey gold hopes were also dashed when they lost 8-0 to Australia.
However, overall the Indian athletes gave a lot to cheer about during the entire Games. They showed that if they are given proper training and exposure at international events, they will be ready to take on the best even at the Olympics. Hopefully, the callous Games officials and authorities will learn something from the event and instead of being corrupt from now on, they will start to being effecient and effective.
