Durgapur (Bengali: দুর্গাপুর) is an industrial metropolis in the state of West Bengal, India, located about 160 km from Kolkata. It was a dream child of the great visionary Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy, the second chief minister of the state.It is home to the largest industrial unit in the state, Durgapur Steel Plant, one of the integrated steel plants of Steel Authority of India Limited. Durgapur experiences a climate which is transitional. Average temperature during summer season is 32 °C while at the cold season is 20 °C. The maximum temperature during summer rises up to 45 °C while minimum temperature during winter comes down to 60C. Average rainfall is 150 millimetres with the bulk of rainfall occurring around the July-September period.
