Jharkhand is a mineral-rich state in Eastern India that was formed in 2000 out of districts from Bihar. This year Jharkhand will have 14 constituencies going to polls. While some old constituencies have been removed, some new ones have been added as a result of the new delimitation rules.

While Jharkhand saw the complete dominanace of Congress in the earlier years of elections in India, it has moved towards being a stronghold for BJP. Year 2004 did saw the Congress wrest some initiative back, but the Narendra Modi factor might just see BJP winning again in Jharkhand 2009 elections.
