The mineral rich state of India, Jharkhand was carved out of Bihar on the 15th Nov' 2000. It was initially created from 18 districts of Bihar, which were further dis-integrated into 24 districts, with its capital as Ranchi.
The Congress led UPA had a home run in 2004, winning 13 out of the 14 seats. But, in 2009, Congress just has one ally, JMM. And even against JMM it's fighting on 2 seats. The JMM chief, Shibu Soren's, defeat in the recently held Tamar by-election has already cast a doubt on JMM's future and added to Congress's worries in Jharkhand. The JVM president Babu Lal Marandi and BJP's Arjun Munda have already made huge in-roads in the tribal votes, which was earlier completely ejoyed by Shibu Soren. Apart from fighting the BJP, Congress is sure to get tough competition from RJD and LJP, who will be fighting against in the COngress candidates on 11 constituencies. RJD has already poached some Congress leaders and is fielding them against the Congress-JMM allaince this year.
BJP will look forward to regain a lot of lost ground. With severe drubbing in 2004, winning just 1 of 14, BJP would be happy to see a divided UPA in 2009 General Elections of Jharkhand. BJP is contesting on 12 seats, leaving 2 seats for its Bihar ally JD (U).
All 14 Jharkhand Parliamentary seats go to polls in two phases, 16th April and 23rd April '2009.

2004 Results from Jharkhand:
In 2004, BJP saw one of its worst results in Jharkhand, with just 1 seat to their tally and coming out 4th in the seats race. Even that single seat was lost in the subsequent by-polls. The Congress came out the clear winner with 6 & it's ally RJD gaining 2 seats and JMM securing 4, making it 13 out of 14 seats for the UPA. But with the fallout of the Congress - RJP pre-poll alliance, it'd be very hard for the Congress led UPA to replicate it's performance in 2009 Jharkhand Election.
