Magnificient beaches, relaxing backwaters, some amazing spas and bountifull of nature: that's what can define Kerala. Kerala has the highest literacy rate in India and as such its election voters are considered the most knowledgeable. Generally, the maximum voting percentage in India is observed from Kerala. Kerala Elections see a direct confrontation between the CPM lead Left Democratic Front and Congress led United Democratic Front. Currently, LDF rules in the state assemble. An important aspect of Kerala elections has been that none of the parties have been able to get a re-election, with power changing hands in every election.
One of the shortest election campaigns has been witnessed in Kerala for the elections this time. The election in the state is being fought on mostly state level issues, although the election is for the national level politics. The LDF would be hoping that no anti-incumbency wave affects us, although it's widely perceived that it won't be easy going for the left front this time. The UDF feels that it has every chnace of hitting the jackpot in these elections. The JD(S) decision to vote for the UDF, is also going to have some impact on LDF, although LDF looks to compensate on that with the help of NCP. BJP is said to have worked hard this time and is eyeing to win at least 4 seats, namely, Kasaragod, Kozhikode, Thiruvananthapuram, and to some extent Alathur.

2004 Results from Kerala:
As a generic rule, BJP has found very few takers in Kerala. In 2004 Elections, BJP contested on 19 seats and won none. However, what was more surprising in 2004 was Congress contesting on 17 seats and winning none. Probably a consolation for the Congress was that on almost all the seats it contested on, it was the runner-up. Will the two major parties draw a blank in 2009 as well? wait for 16th May to give you the answers, but for now you can look at what happened in 2004:
