Orissa is a state of diversities. On one side it hs one of the most religious places for the Hindus in Puri, on the other it has Christian dominated areas of Kandhamal. Incidentally, it's this Christian dominated area, which has come out as the biggest poll issue in Orissa. Recently, a string of attacks against the Christians in Kandhamal was seen by many as conducted by Hindu radicals. As such, opposition parties are using this plank to target the BJP in 2009 Orissa Elections.

The other factor sure to affect the poll results of Orissa Parliamentary elections is the break-up of poll alliance between the BJP and BJD. Traditionally, BJP - BJD has fought and won several elections together, both at the national and state levels. With the BJP now fighting alone in Orissa, and BJD with the third front, the elections might just see some different results this time around.

Constituencies in Orissa go to poll on 16th & 23rd April '2009.
