Tamil Nadu has always been a politically volatile state owing to their two dynamic leaders, M. Karunanidhi of DMK and Jayalalitha of AIADMK. Anti-Hindi agitations and talk of Dravidian supremacy made DMK very popular during the 1960's. AIADMK was formed from a broken fraction of DMK in 1972 by M. G. Ramachandran. From 1967 till date, it's amazing that DMK and AIADMK are the only two parties to have been able to form Governments. However, with the recent rise of smaller parties such as DMDK and PMK, along with the Congress, the India 2009 Elections should see some different results.
Jayalalitha's AIADMK, who has the poll pact with the Third Front, will start her campaigning from April 16th, while DMK, who'll be fighting polls along with Congress, plans to launch campaign from 18th April. The DMK and Congress are still fighting together this year, but the PMK, MDMK and other Left parties are now part of the Third Front. The main issues surrounding this year's elections for Tamil Nadu is the Sri Lankan crisis and the plight of innocent Tamils in Sri Lanka.
Polling Date for 39 Lok Sabha seats of Tamil Nadu is 13th May'2009.
