Snoring is a problem that affects not only you but also those sleeping with or around you. A major cause of snoring is weakness of the throat tissues. A weak throat closes at times as you sleep, thus affecting your breathing and making you snore. Another major factor for snoring is weak tongue tissues. At times, even as you sleep, your tongue turns and twists inside your mouth, preventing you from inhaling properly and thus snoring. this further deprives you of your oxygen intake at night, further affecting your overall well-being.
Here's a single yoga asana that can help you get rid of snoring:
Ujjayee Pranayam
Steps:
i. Close your eyes and sit in sukhasana, breathing normally. Exhale fully.
ii. Now inhale with both nostrils and contract your neck muscles as to produce a continuous sobbing sound-low but uniformly pitched and without any breaks.
iii. Inhale to your lungs maximum capacity. YOu should feel a slight vibration in your chest and head areas.
iv. Try to hold your breath for as long as possible.
v. Now form the pranayam mudra with your right hand, close the right nostril with your right thumb and then exhale very, very slowly through the left nostril. This completes one round. Repeat this 8-10 times.
Benefits of Ujjayee Pranayam Yoga Exercise:
This exercise strengthens throat tissues to curb snoring. It also boosts lung and thyroid functions, counters heart and brain problems and also removes any blockages of the air passages. |
