Army camp gets swept by avalanche in Kashmir


An Indian Army camp got swept by heavy avalanche in Kashmir, leading to death of 13 people. The troop comprised of nearly 400 army personnel and was setting up a warfare training camp at Khilanmarg.

Khilanmarg is located 70 kms from Srinagar, and has been used before for army’s warfare training purposes. It’s also a major skiing destination, because of its proximity to Gulmarg.

Monday morning heavy snowfall led to an avalanche. Over 400 personnel were swept by the avalanche, which led to the death of 13 people. Heavy snow and wind is affecting the search and rescue mission. Those who have been found critically injured are being shifted to a hospital in Gulmarg.
