India celebrates its 63rd Indian Indipendence Day

On 15th August 2009, India celebrates it’s 63rd Independence Day. It was on August 15th 1947 that India attained freedom from the British rule. Declared as a National Holiday, the main celebration events take place in New Delhi while across India, the National Flag hosting ceremony is carried out across Govt building, schools and colleges.

In her address to the nation on Friday, the Indian President Pratibha Patil, appealed to the countrymen to be cautious against corruption. She also warned about the upcoming consequences as a result of poor monsoon and asked the countrymen to remain prepared for it. She also assured Indians that the Govt is taking all necessary measures to combat the menace of the H1N1 virus. The Prime Minister of India will hoist the National Flag at the Red Fort and deliver a speech on 15th Aug morning at the Red Fort, New Delhi.
