Barely 10 days back, Bahujan Samajwadi Party (BSP) supremo, Mayawati announced a pre-poll alliance with Haryana politics stalwart Bhajan lal’s Haryana Janhit Congres Party (HJCP). However, the alliance was short lived as Mayawati has now declared that the tie is off and her party would be fighting alone in Haryana Assembly Polls.
As per the earlier arrangement, Mayawati’s party was to contest on 40 seats while HJCP was to fight it out in 50 seats. Bhajan Lal’s son Kuldeep Bishnoi was to be projected as the chief ministerial candidate.
The reason behind this alliance break-up is not very clear, but speculations are that since BJP broke up its alliance with INLD, BSP must have sensed more non-Jat votes if it fights the elections alone. Besides, it’s performance in the recently concluded General elections 2009 in Haryana state were pretty impressive, and that might have given BSP courage to go alone.
