140 long years have passed since Mahatma Gandhi was born, but his contributions remain fresh in the memories of Indians and World over. Today, 2nd Oct marks the 140th Birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and it is being celebrated across India as Gandhi Jayanti. It’s also the day when Lal Bahadur Shastri, a former Prime Minister and a great Indian leader, was born. the Even the UN has declared this day as an International Day of Non-Violence.
Today prayer services and tributes are held all over India, especially at Raj Ghat, Gandhi’s memorial in New Delhi where Gandhi Ji was cremated. Popular celebration includes prayer meetings, commemorative ceremonies in different cities by colleges, local government institutions and socio-political institutions.
Meanwhile, the United Nations has released a stamp to commemorate the 140th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. The United Nations Postal Administration released the stamp designed by Miami-based artist Ferdie Pacheco and the stamp has been priced at $1. The stamp shows the Indian Father of the Nation in red, blue and gold.
