Just about half of the total 65,32,234 voters came out to exercise their voting rights for the first phase of Jharkhand Assembly Polls 2009. 26 constituencies went to polls on 25th Nov, including the capital city of Ranchi.
591 tribal voters, spread over Khirwasari, Pesarpur and Padanbona villages in the Deoghar constituency of Jharkhand did not vote in protest against their areas not yet getting any electricity as earlier promised under the Rajiv Gandhi Rural Electricity Programme.
Fate of 470 candidate, 34 of which are women, was sealed on 25th Nov ballots, and results will be declared on 23rd Dec 2009, after all five phases of polls are over. The second phase of polls are scheduled on December 2nd.
