Jharkhand Phase III polls sees 50-55% polling

A total of 50-55% polling was recorded in Jharkhand Phase III polls on 8th Dec 09. Maoist attacks led to the death of a BSF jawan.

Jharkhand Assembly elections 2009 are taking place in five stages. The first phase of elections were held on 25th Nov and 2nd phase on 2nd December. The fourth phase is due on 12th Dec and last phase is on 18th Dec. The results are scheduled to be declared on 23rd Dec.

50-55% votes were polled today in the third phase of voting. In a gun fire incident, supposedly by the maoists, a BSF jawan was killed at Sarasdangal forest in the Dumka district. A police constable was hit by a bullet, and is currently hospitalized.

Some major candidates whose fates were decided today includes former Chief Minister, Stephen Marandi (Cong), JMM chief, Shibu Soren’s son Hemant who is a Rajya Sabha member, former ministers Nalin Soren (JMM), Samresh Singh (JVM-P) and Sita Soren, widow of Shibu Soren’s eldest son Durga Soren. Fate of 237 candidates with 115 independents was decided today.
