When Apple launched ipod in early 2001, people forgot what a walkman was, then Apple came with its iphone, and everyone was hooked. Now Apple believes it can get people talking again with what it calls a revolutionary product.

The ipad tablet is not meant to remove or replace the ipod or the iphone, or the computer for that matter. It’s just a sweet little device to help you move around with. The iPad weighs about 1.5 pounds, is 0.5 inch thin, has a 9.7-inch display and should have a battery life of 10 hours. Comparing it with a 10 inch netbook, the advantage will be in Apple’s proven and superior multi-touch technology, and the fact that it’ll support all the apps made till date for the ipod or iphone. that in itself will give it a huge boost as when it becomes available for sale in 60 days, customers will have a lot of applications to test it out with. The ipad will also compete with Amazon’s kindle and Barnes & Nobles Nook.

The iPad will cost $499 for a 16-gigabyte model, $599 for a 32 GB version and $699 for a 64-gigabyte model with Wi-Fi.
