A National Daily published an advertisement today showing a retd. Pak Air Force Chief along with top contributors for India, on the occasion of National Girl Child Day.
The occasion for the ad was about the importance of woman, and was commissioned by Women and Child Development Ministry. The publication was the responsibility of Directorate of Advertising and Visual Publicity (DAVP) and the Women and Child Development Ministry. DAVP itself is an I&B Ministry wing and as such, the advertisement seems to have been passed by those at the highest authority levels.
The image in question is that of former PAF chief Tanvir Mahmood . Shown alongside those of Kapil Dev and Virender Sehwag, and having a bold caption of “Where would you be if your mother was not allowed to be born”, the ad also featured images of Sonia Gandhi, PM Manmohan Singh and Krishna Tirath. The advertisement was for the National Girl Child Day on Jan 24th. How a glaring mistake like this can pass from IB Ministry’s nose is hard for anyone to understand.
In what could cause the Indian Govt led by Congress a major embarrassment in the coming days, the faux pas was first downplayed by the Govt. But as it started airing on the News channels and being ridiculed by the Opposition, Women and Child Development Minister Krishna Tirath finally rendered an apology late night on Sunday.
