Jyoti Basu, India’s longest serving Chief Minister, still critical

Jyoti Basu, India’s longest serving Chief Minister from West Bengal, is still critical and remains on ventilator support. Jyoti Basu served as the Chief Minister of West Bengal from 1977 to 2000, a post which he finally let go because of declining health conditions.

Jyoti Basu was hospitalized at AMRI Hospital, Salt Lake on the first of Jan. He was said to have been suffering from pneumonia. Then early Wednesday morning, Jyoti Basu’s support staff complained of serious breathing problem in him and he was immediately put on Ventilator support. This fueled speculations across different sites, which feared that the worst news is coming.

Jyoti Basu was born on 8th July 1914 and is currently 95 years of age.
