With heavy blankets of fog covering most states of northern India, train services have been badly hit. A lot of trains have been cancelled or re-routed, while almost all the trains are running hrs behind schedule.

The tourist spot of Shimla is the worst hit, with Shimla recording -5 C on Tuesday. Although, it’s not too bad a news for Shimla, as some tourists look for holiday packages especially to experience the cold weather in the hill stations. But minus three degrees in Srinagar is a major cause of worry, as it’s affecting the day to day living of people. Cities in Punjab are reeling under the cold too, with Chandigarh recording 6 degrees and Amritsar recording 3.
Delhi is feeling the brunt of heavy fog. Delhi’s temperature fell from 9.3 C on Tuesday to 5.6 on Wednesday. Much of this can be attributed to the cold waves blowing in from the Himalayas. The visibility has greatly reduced to just about 700 meters. Almost 25 trains are running late, while some have been cancelled. The fog situation as well as cold is expected to worsen in the coming days.
Cancelled trains:
4006 Lichchavi Express: New Delhi-Sitamarhi, 2398 Mahabodhi Express: New Delhi-GAYA, 4512 Nauchandi Express: Saharanpur-Allahabad, 4212 Unchahar Express: Chandigarh-Allahabad.
