11 dead in fire at Carlton Tower in Bangalore

11 people are feared dead in the Carlton Building fire in Bangalore today. Carlton Towers, located near Domlur flyover in Bangalore at the old airport road, is a business center which has several offices and establishments functioning from its premises.

The fire started with a short circuit on the 7th floor. A thick smoke soon began to fill in the floors and led to panic among the people inside the building. Most of the deaths occurred because of people jumping out from the 8th floor in panic. Several people fainted because of the smoke and have been rushed to the nearby hospitals. Manipal Hospital has confirmed receiving about 60 patients till know, some in critical condition.

15 fire fighting units were deployed to douse the fire. After 2 hrs, the fire was brought under control. All people inside the building are said to have been evacuated. One of the major hampers in the rescue mission was the fact that that the fire tenders could only reach till the fourth floor.
