Indian flavour on Winter Olympic Games Ice Dance

Winter Games 2010 saw Meryl Davis and Charlie White perform at the ice dance competition in an Indian attire on Sunday. The performance was quite impressive and deservedly won the appreciation of the judges as well as the audience.

Meryl Davis and Charlie White are known names in the field of ice dancing. Prior to performing at the Winter Olympic Games, Vancouver, they have performed their ice dance on Indian tunes and Indian attire at several different competitions as well. They recently won National Figure Skating Championships Gala for the second year in a row, performing on a mix of Indian music, starting from a tune in ‘Bunty Aur Bubbly’ then going to ‘Silsila Ye Chaahat Ka’ and finished off with ‘Dhola Re’ from The movie ‘Devdas’.

Sunday’s performance at the Ice Dance competition moved them in to the second place with 108.55 points. The favourites Oksana Domnina and Maxim Shabalin dropped from first to third, with 106.60.

Meryl Davis and Charlie White have been ice-skating together since they were nine. They are also the 2009 US National Champions.

Although India doesn’t feature in the Vancouver Winter Olympics, it’s all gearing up for the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games, which are scheduled in Oct.
