Feb 12th My name is Khan released to theaters in India, and by the looks of it, the movie is already on its way to becoming a block buster success. Shah Rukh, Kajol and Karan Johar has done it again, as the movie seems to have the right mixture of emotions, fun and a noble message.
A lot of useless controversy was created around Shah Rukh Khan and the movie by Shiv Sena, Maharashtra’s political party. there were reports that the movie won’t be shown in the theaters in Mumbai. The day started with morning shows of the movie being canceled, except in two theaters. But as the day progressed, all theaters were showing the movie and almost every one of them reported packed houses.
Across India, My Name is Khan has seen a lot of enthusiasm by the viewers. The movie reviews have been extremely positive, with Times of India giving it a 5 out of 5 stars, something which Times of India rarely does. Overseas reports are good news as well, as huge demand has been reported in. It looks set to shatter the opening records for a Bollywood movie in overseas market.
Friday being an Indian holiday due to Maha Shivratri, followed by holidays on Saturday and Sunday, the movie will surely see packed houses for these three days. In the coming weeks, it’d be interesting to see how it fares against the success of Aamir Khan’s 3 Idiots.
