India defeats pakistan 4-1 in 2010 Men’s Hockey World Cup

India started its campaign ion a winning note by defeating Pakistan 4 goals to 1 in the 2010 Men’s Hockey World Cup opener.

India performed exceptionally well, going to attack right from the word go. They missed a lot of initial chances, but finally Shivendra got india their first goal. Then Sandeep came with the second and Prabhjot with the third. Sandeep got his second goal of the game to finsh India at 4 goals. Sandeep Singh was rightly judged the Man of the Match today.

Pakistan mostly looked off-colour through out the match. They just couldn’t perform as a team today. They finally managed one goal courtesy a penalty corner. Two other penalty corners awarded to them narrowly missed as it hit the post.

Pakistan is placed 7th in the World rankings, while India is placed 10th. India could only qualify for the event by virtue of being the host team.

After the Men’s Hockey World Cup, the next mega sporting invent to be hosted by India is the Delhi Commonwealth Games 2010, which starts on 3rd Oct in New Delhi.
