A massive joint operation by police forces of Jharkhand and West Bengal has been undertaken to hunt down the maoists in these areas.
This is one of the biggest initiative taken till date to tackle the menace of the maoists in these areas. The operation is being carried out by para-military forces and joint police forces from both land and air. A helipad has been constructed in Saranda jungle area oj Jharkhand to help in the air surveillance.
Areas covering the current offensive against the outlawed Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) include West Singhbhum, East Singhbhum, Bokaro, Hazaribagh and Seraikela districts in Jharkhand as well as Purulia, West Midnapore and Bankura districts in nearby West Bengal.
Orissa is also expected to join in the offensive soon.
