After almost a week’s disruption in the flight services to Europe because of Volcano eruption, flights have resumed partial services today.
Italy, Switzerland and France opened their airports today, but UK airports remained closed, after news of new ash clouds came in. Poland, which had opened its airports on Monday itself, has now closed them again. Sctotland operated a few flights but it will be closed by 1200 GMT as well.
Early estimates suggest that the impact of the the ash clouds on the airlines will be greater than the 9/11 attacks in US in 2001. Airlines are said to lose over $250 billion worth of revenues now, which may force them to increase the prices in the coming months, adversely affecting the tourism sector.
