Unmanned Aerial Vehicles to be used against maoists

Govt is finally ready to use unmanned Aerial Vehicles or UAV’s against the maoists in Chhattisgarh.

With the recent killing of 75 army personnel by the maoists in the jungles of Dantewada, the Congress led Central Govt has come for a lot of criticism. The defense Minister, P C Chidambram is under pressure from all political parties to show his resolve to fight against the maoists.

Ever since the killings, the opposition has been teaming up against an evasive Congress, who clearly know that the entire planning against the maoists was a mess. BJP leader Yashwant Singh even went to the extent of saying in the Lok Sabha that Congress had earlier joined hands with the same maoists to win the elections, and now that is proving very costly for the country.

Govt was initially against the use of air power against the maoists citing reasons of innocent tribals living in the remote areas. But because of the stiff criticism, Govt has been forced to rethink the strategy. A UAV weighing 10 kg has been tested in jungle areas near the Counter Terrorism and Jungle Warfare College in Kanker district, which is situated about 150 km south of Raipur in Chhattisgarh.
