Work on the Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar Mumbai Metro Corridor is almost complete and the route maybe opened for the general public very soon.
Mumbai Metro has already received the first batch of four rakes. Each rake has 4 coaches each and can accommodate 50 passengers in seating and 325 standing passengers. The rakes also have the passenger information system, digital route maps and also a special coach for physically challenged.
The Versova-Andheri metro train will ease the traffic in western and central Mumbai by providing a viable means. There will a total of 12 stations in this 11.5 Kms stretch. Each station will have two levels, with fares and tickets on one and the platforms on other. Fares will be collected through automatic systems so that long queues can be avoided. Each station will also have elevators so that commuters, especially the physically challenged ones can have easy access.
