Cyclone Phet moves away from Gujarat, but may return

Cyclone Phet, which has killed 7 people till now, has moved away from the coast of Gujarat, but there is a very high probability of the cyclone to make return by weekend.

Cyclone Phet hit Gujarat coastal region on Wednesday and winds with speed reaching 40-50 kmph were felt. About 10,000 people were evacuated from the coastal regions of Gujarat and fishermen have been advised not to go to the sea. But Gujarat was spared the full brunt of the cyclone as on Thursday, Cyclone Phet changed its path and moved towards Oman. India Meteorological Department, however, feels that the cyclone will change course once again and move towards Gujarat-Karachi coast near the weekend.

Pakistan meanwhile has put its armed forces and Govt depts on high alert to tackle the cyclone if it hits Pakistan’s Arabian sea coastline in Sindh and Balochistan provinces. Already 60,000 have been moved from the place to special relief camps. Heavy rain with gail force winds are expecgted in the next 24-48 hrs.

Gujarat weather conditions can be tracked here.
