India opens account with 4 medals on Day 1 of CWG 2010

India opened its medals account in Commonwealth games with 2 silver medals and 2 bronze medals. Australia did as expected and won 4 gold and 2 silver medals to start on the top of the table.

India had a great day in tennis with the players winning all the matches. Bopanna and Nirupama Sanjeev were the only ones defeated in tennis today, but then again they were against the top seeded Australian pair of Paul Hanley and Anastasia Rodionova in the mixed doubles first round. They lost 3-6 6-3 3-6. Top seeds Leander and Sania won easily and Rohan Bopanna, Rushmi Chakravarthi and Poojashree Venkatesh also won their singles matches.

India beat Kenya 5-0 in the Badminton team event. We also had impressive starts in archery with men’s and women’s recurve teams finishing on top ahead of Tuesday’s elimination round at the Yamuna Sports Complex
