Many would not have heard of a small Polish town Swiebodzin, but suddenly it’s all across the news worldwide for unveiling world’s largest statue of Jesus. It takes over the famous Christ the Redeemer sculpture in Brazil’s Rio de Janeiro.
The statue in Swiebodzin measures 33 metres in height and is mounted on top of a 17-meter high area. The design for the statue came from a local priest Sylwester Zawadzki and only private donations were used to gather the money for the project.
About 20,000 people attended the opening ceremony for the Jesus statue in Swiebodzin on Sunday.
