Prithviraj Chavan has been appointed the new Maharashtra Chief Minister. He was always a front runner for the post because of his clean corruption-free image.
Prithviraj Chavan was born on 17th March 1946 and represents Maharashtra in the Rajya Sabha. The first challenge for the new Chief Minister would be to make sure that its ally NCP works hand-in-hand with the Govt. It’d also be his priority to see that the Adarsh scam is impartially looked into and guilty are brought to book.
Ever since the Adarsh society scam broke out, and Ashok Chavan’s role became evident, it was widely speculated that he’d be sacrificed. The winter session of Parliament has started and Congress would do anything to take the heat away from them.
In 2010 itself, Congress has been marred by huge corruption cases one after another. The CWG scam, the 2G scam and now the Adarsh society scam are just some of them. In all cases, Congress ministers or ministers supporting the Congress govt looted on public money for huge personal gains. To divert attention, Congress has done the safest thing by removing Ashok Chavan from the CM’s post. However, unless those guilty are punished by law, and that too severely punished, justice won’t be done.
