No Indian joy at Oscar 2011 83rd Annual Academy Awards

Oscar 2011 was held at the Kodak Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday 27th Feb 2011 amidst a glitzy ceremony, and though India hoped Rahman would win an Oscar again, we all were left disappointed.

The 83rd Annual Academy Awards ceremony was hosted by Anne Hathaway and James Franco. They did a perfect job in keeping audience interested through out the Awards function.

Oscar's

The King’s Speech and Inception won 4 Academy Awards each, with The King’s Speech getting the highly ranked Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Director and Best Writing (Original Screenplay). Inception’s 4 awards were all from only the technical categories, but we all know Inception fans were rooting for far better awards than this. How Inception did not get nominated for a Best Director award is hard to answer.

The Social Network, another well made movie, did not find much favour at the Oscar Awards 2011. It did win 3 awards though. True Grit, which had 10 nominations, failed to win a single Oscar. True Grit was only only second in nominations to the 12 that The King’s Speech got.

India’s dream of seeing A R Rahman win another Oscar will have to wait for another year. A R Rahman had two nominations for his work in 127 Hours, but like the movie, he had to return empty handed.
