Bangladesh gave a glitzy opening ceremony to declare the start of the Cricket world cup 2011.
Bangladesh is hosting the opening ceremony of a major event for the first time and everyone wanted to see if it can be on par with the opening ceremonies of China and India. As soon as the ceremony started, we all had our answer. Bangladesh did extremely well in showcasing its culture and gave a resounding start to the World Cup.
The best part of the entire show was Bangladesh did not try to be extravagant about it. This stuck to their traditions and showcased what there culture is all about. Sweetest part was when captain of the cricket teams were carried to the ground on rickshaws!
In the 2-hr long ceremony, the performances were also carefully chosen and perfectly executed. It started with Bangladesh national anthem, Aamar Sonar Bangla, followed by a welcome song by young singers Ibrar Tipu, Elita, Kona and Mila. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina declared the ceremony open and then a series of cultural events followed. Runa Laila, Canadian star Bryan Adams and Indian composers Shankar-Ehsan -Loy enthralled the stadium with their performances.
Let us all now hope to see a great tournament where 14 countries are participating and wish India all the best.
