At least 32 people have been feared dead after a massive 8.9 magnitude earthquake hit Japan and massive Tsunami waves may hit soon.
The 8.9 magnitude earthquake struck the northeast of Tokyo at 2:46 P.M. local time, and several aftershocks followed the main one. Even the aftershocks were measured as high as 7.4. This is the biggest earthquake in the history of Japan and seventh biggest to have hit anywhere in the world.
What has made matters worse is the Tsunami which struck Japan after the quake. Waves as high as 1.5 feet were seen in Wake Island, Northern Pacific, which means Hawaii and other parts of Pacific, including the US western coast, will be hit by Tsunami.
Google.com has been giving a Tsunami Alert for New Zealand, the Philippines, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Hawaii, and others. Waves expected over the next few hours, caused by 8.9 earthquake in Japan. Meanwhile, Philippines and Hawaii has ordered evacuation from its coastal areas. Tsunamis can travel at speeds matching a jet liner which is about 800 kph, so evacuation work is being carried out at a rapid rate.
News reports suggest a fire has broken out at Onagawa nuclear plant in Kyodo, which is in the northeast parts of Japan. Japan has 5 nuclear power plants, and other 4 are safe. Japan has already declared a nuclear emergency after the quake.
We pray that Japan comes out of the trouble soon and Tsunami won’t lead to a huge loss of life and property.
