Bollywood Boxoffice collections bad run continues

Bollywood has continued on its downward spiral and Boxoffice collections have failed to improve in 2011.

Some recent releases were expected to bring Bolllywood back on track. Eagerly awaited movie Saat Khoon Maaf with Priyanka Chopra in lead role failed miserably at the Box Office. In its first week, it has managed to do a collection of just about Rs. 15 Crore.

Patiala House saw Akshay Kumar moving away from comedy genre, but the movie flopped. Ajay Devgan starrer Dil To Baccha Hai Ji showed a lot of promise, but people decided to stay away from the theaters.

To add to the Hindi movie woes, no major English movie has been released at the Box office in past month or so. The one’s released like The Mechanic and Sanctum did not have the much needed ‘star’ power to gather audience.

The only movie that has done well this year is quite surprisingly Dharmendra’s Yamla Pagla Deewana. The Deol family would be mighty pleased with the outcome of this movie. It has been declared hit with a collection of around Rs. 55 Crore and is still running in over 70 cinema halls across the country. Tanu Weds Manu has been doing good business in its first week, but it’d be too early to predict the movies future at Box Office.

With the Cricket World Cup on its full swing now and the upcoming IPL Cricket 20-20 tournament in just a month’s time, it seems highly unlikely that movies will gather much audience at the box office.
