Raja’s Key aide Sadiq Batcha dead, suicide or murder?

2G scam accused A Raja’s key aide Sadiq Batcha is said to have committed suicide today at his residence in Chennai.

In the massive 2G spectrum scam, DMK leader and former telecom minister A Raja is the prime accused. He was arrested last month and has been under interrogation since then. For siphoning off his ill-gotten wealth, Raja is said to have used several business houses and one Tv channel related to DMK chief’s daughter.

Sadiq Batcha, Raja’s key aide, was the promoter of Greenhouse, a Chennai-based export house. This company is supposed to have acted as a front to receive the kickbacks. Raja’s wife was a director in this firm as well.

Sadiq was scheduled to fly to Delhi today for questioning by CBI in relation to the 2G scam. He was questioned earlier on 23rd Feb and his firm was raided in December 2010. It was expected that Baitha might be arrested today. However, Baitha was found dead at his house a few hours back, the initial reports suggest that he committed suicide.

His interrogation could have provided real insights into Raja’s operations. A massive scam of the proportions of 2G scam was not done by Raja alone. There were a lot other powerful people, ministers and bureaucrats involved. Sadiq was a key link to the scam, sonmeone who clearly knew the money flow route and conspirators involved. Getting him out of the way was the easiest thing for these unknown ministers to remain hidden. So, was it really a suicide or was he murdered? Only time will tell.

For now, CBI will cry that a key witness and link to the case has been lost. But why was he not arrested before, interrogated before? Why CBI left him to die when they knew conspirators will try to kill him? Who was the CBI shielding?
