Trinamool to contest on 228 constituencies, Congress left with 64

In a unilateral decision to show who is the superior partner in West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee went ahead and released the list of 228 candidates for the upcoming assembly elections in West Bengal.

With the decision of Trinamool Congress to contest from 228 constituencies, Congress is now left with only 64 seats. 2 seats, Joynagar and Kultali, have already been given to TMC partner Socialist Unity Center of India.

Mamata Banerjee also clearly stated that if Congress decides to fight on more than 64 seats, it will put its own candidates from minority communities on all 64 seats. A clear cut warning to Congress to back-off and meekly accept the 64 seats. A scam tainted Congress doesn’t look like having any other option than to simply accept whatever has been left for them my Mamata Banerjee.

The assembly elections in West Bengal are scheduled in six poll phases, starting on 18th April and ending on 10th May. Results will be declared on 13th May.
