When Apple iPad was released, India had to wait 9 months to buy it. Many instead decided to go for a Galaxy tab or for the Indian Olive pad. So when iPad 2 was released last month, every one was waiting to see how soon it can make it to India. Apple seems to have realized its earlier mistake and is now bringing iPad 2 to India on April 29th, just a month after its US release.
The cheapest model of the iPad will be the 16GB version without 3G and will sell for Rs. 29,500. The costliest iPad will be the 64GB version with 3G which will be available for Rs. 46,900. Currently, iPad 2 was available on sites like Ebay India for an exorbitant cost of Rs. 50,000 and above.
iPad 2 is an advanced version of the original iPad and features a 1 Ghz dual-core processor. It comes with 512 MB DDR2 RAM and it’s 9.7 inch screen has a resolution of 1024*768 px. It’s also capable of a 1080p full HD out via Apple Digital AV adapter. More importantly, the iPad now features a front VGA camera and a back camera with 5x digital zoom and ability to record at 960*720 at 30 fps.
The news of iPad 2 release in India will also bring down the prices of its competitors like Samsung Galaxy Tab. The 7inch Galaxy Tab was released in India just about 6 months back at a price of Rs. 38,000. Many believed that Samsung over priced the tab and missed a good chance to capture the market when iPad was not in India. In the past few months, Galaxy Tab prices have come down fairly quickly and now sells at just Rs. 24,000.
In the next few months, a lot of other Tablet PCs are going to get launched in India. Samsung Galaxy 10 inch Tab will be here by the end of May and so will the PlayBook tab from Research in Motion, which makes Blackberry.
