Feels good to be Champions of the World Cricket

India beat Sri Lanka to win the 2011 World Cup Cricket and feels really really amazing. The day, the moments, the joy will be cherished by one and all for years to come.

Sri Lanka batting first made 275, thanks to a well planned batting power-play. In last 10 overs, Sri Lanka made 91 runs, and Mahela top scored with an amazing innings of 91 runs. When India started the chase, first over saw Sehwag getting out for a duck. Few overs later, when Tendulkar went for 18, we all felt India is down and out. But then Gambhir and Kohli showed immense skills and amidst huge pressure steadied the innings while keeping the run rate around 5. When Kohli went, Dhoni came before Yuvraj. Many bwondered why a set batsmen like Yuvraj was being shielded, but Dhoni played probably the best innings of his carrier and guided India to a comfortable win with six wickets in hand.

India v Sri Lanka - 2011 ICC World Cup Final

Gambhir must be hugely disappointed for not completing his century as he gifted his wicket when he was at 97. He would probably not get this golden opportunity to score a century in the finals of World Cup Cricket ever again, but we all are thankful to him for his excellent play. We could not have won this game without Gambhir’s sensible. Dhoni was awarded the man of the match, while Yuvraj got the Man of the Series award for his excellent contribution with bat and ball through out the tournament.

This World Cup has come back to India after 28 years. 1983 was when Kapil got us the cup and this year it’s Dhoni.

The World Cup is surely dedicated to the entire team, but especially to Tendulkar. He has been a back bone of Indian batting for over 20 years now, and this probably was his last world cup, so it’s good to see that he ended it with a win.

BCCI has announced 1 Crore Rs. for all players of the Indian cricket team, 50 lakh each to support staff members including the coach and 25 lakh to the selectors. Jharkhand has announced Jharkhand Ratna award for Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Karnataka Govt has announced plots for every player. President Pratibha Patil would be hosting a dinner for the winner team tomorrow.

It was really god to see the entire country stand together and celebrate the moment when India won. Jai ho India, Jai ho!
