Mamata Banerjee sworn in as Chief Minister of West Bengal

Historic day in West Bengal’s politics as Mamata Banerjee took oath today to become the first women Chief Minister in the state.

Mamata left her home for Raj Bhawan at 12.47 PM on her old Santro car. All along she was followed by frenzied fans, with dholaks and green gulals. The oath ceremony took place at the Raj Bhawan lawns where Mamata took her oath in Bengali. 44 ministers were also sworn in today, 37 from TMC and 7 from the ally party Congress.

The ceremony was attended by outgoing CM Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee and 9 other members from Left parties. Sensational rock band from Bengal, Bhoomi’s Soumitra Roy was at the Raj Bhawan to perform a song for Mamata.

Mamata will hold her first cabinet meeting at 4 PM at the Writer’s Building and we wish her best of luck for her full tenure and hope she succeeds in her mission to bring smiles to the face of Bengali people.
