Osama Bin Laden was killed by American forces while hiding in a million dollar mansion in Abbottabad, Pakistan.
Osama Bin Laden has been in news ever since New York’s Twin Towers were destroyed in 9/11 terror attacks in 2001. After the attacks, he not only became America’s Number 1 enemy, but also probably the most hated person across the world. America launched a massive manhunt after him and his organization Al-Qaeda.
Despite all their efforts, America was unable to catch Osama till now. It was widely believed that Osama is getting helped by Pakistan’s ISI and those in power in Pakistan, which is why he has successfully managed to hide for so long.
However, in August 2010, US finally came to know of a safe heaven for Osama in Abbottabad, Pakistan. Abbottabad is a quite hill station town in Pakistan. the place of interest was a huge million dollar mansion surrounded by 12 to 18 feet walls and heavy security. By March 2011, America had confirmed the presence of Bin Laden in the area and on April 29th, US President Barack Obama gave the orders to attack the premises.
The operation was conducted by Joint Special Operations Command force in Pakistan who were working with the US Central Intelligence Agency. U.S. helicopters carrying the SEALs carried the operation in the early hrs of May 1st and finally Osama Bin Laden was apprehended and shot in the head.
The body of Osama has not yet been identified by DNA testing, the reports of which will come in the next few days, but sources said that the facial recognition techniques have confirmed that it’s Osama. His dead body was buried at sea within 24 hrs of his death.
The fact that Osama was found hiding in one of the hill stations of Pakistan also shows that somehow Pakistan’s ISI or the Pakistani Govt knew of his whereabouts and were in fact helping him hide. It’d be interesting to see how America reacts against Pakistan now.
The news of Osama Bin Laden’s killing brought the American’s out on the street. The entire world seems to be happy and rejoicing the fact that the perpetrator of the terror attack is now dead.
