Amarnath Yatra 2011 will see 2.20 Lakh pilgrims

Amarnath Yatra 2011 is to commence on June 29th and nearly 2.20 Lakh pilgrims will get a chance to visit the holy Amarnath Caves.

2,19,190 lakh pilgrims registered for Amarnath yatra in a month’s time. The registration was opened on May 10th by Shri Amarnath Shrine Board. The Baltal route, which is now preferred more as it’s shorter, will have 1,09,018 pilgrims and the traditional Pahalgam-Amaranth route via south Kashmir will have 1,10,172 devotees.

Amarnath Yatra commencing

Helicpoter service to Amarnath Cave can be availed from Baltal to Panjtarni and also from Pahalgam to Panjtarni, but it’s a lot cheaper to take the helicopter from Baltal.

With fears of destroying or damaging the heavenly abode of Lord Shiva, the Shrine Board has decided to end the pilgrimage in 15 days this year. So, Yatra will commence on June 29th and end on August 13th itself. Earlier, the yatra used to be run for two months beginning on June 15th.

Today, BSNL launched its telecom service for Amarnath yatra pilgrims which will now help the devotees to stay in touch with family and friends while on the pilgrimage.
