The Intercontinental Hotel in Kabul attacked by Suicide Bombers

The Intercontinental Hotel in Kabul has been attacked by Suicide Bombers in almost the same fashion as Mumbai’s Taj Hotel was attacked on 26th Nov 2008.

At least 10 people have been reported dead till now in terrorist attack on Kabul’s top hotel. Most high profile foreign visitors to Kabul prefer staying at The Intercontinental Hotel, which is among Kabul’s top hotel and is situated on a hill in the western parts of the city. A group of Afghan governors were meeting today at the hotel and this may have been the reason behind the attack.

Six suicide bombers are believed to have taken part in the attack. One of them blew himself at the hotel’s gate, other blew himself on second floor and third one at the back of the hotel. Journalists have confirmed that they heard three large explosions from the hotel. Taliban is being said to be behind the attacks.

Parts of the The Intercontinental Hotel are now on fire. Afghan forces have already stormed the gates of the hotel. One terrorist managed to reach the roof of the hotel and fired rocket-propelled grenades.

NATO is reporting that all attackers have been killed.
