India hosted CWG Games last year and we all know the shame it brought to us because of shoddy preparations and scam committed by Organizing Committee members. This year, all spotlight is now on the Formula One race, which is to be conducted at the Greater Noida race track in October.
Everyone is worried if the race track in Greater Noida will be completed on time? Will we get to see a racing spectacle as is expected from F1 races from across the world? We will have top drivers like Hamilton, Vettel, Massa, Schumacher and top teams of Red Bull-Renault, McLaren-Mercedes, Ferrari in India. Will we be able to justify there presence and provide them with a world class treatment?
If you get a chance to visit the location of Formula One track being built at the Jaypee Grees Sports City in Greater Noida, you will be left with mixed feelings. No doubt the work is being carried on a massive scale, you will see long winding roads, properly organized residential and sports areas and lot of workers around. From outside you can see the outline of F1 stadium rising high, and the sports tracks can be seen on a high dirt mound. But the stadium looks far from over.
F1 race calendar shows that the race can be back on the earlier scheduled Oct 28-30 dates. If that remains as the final date, then India has just about 4 months to prepare the track. There would be some test runs to be done for sure, which leaves even less time for preparations. Will we able to complete the work on time? Probably this is why F1 website still shows that the Indian race is on “subject to circuit approval”.
Let’s hope we can because after Congress created a mess of the CWG Games, Indians deserve to host an international Game well and show the world that we are not just about scams.
