Google Doodle celebrates Amar Chitra Katha founder Anant Pai’s B’day

We all have grown up reading Amar Chitra Katha and it feels really good to see a Google Doodle celebrating the birthday of its founder Anant Pai.

Anant Pai may not be with us now in person but his memories and good work will always live with us. In 1967, he came up with Amar Chitra Katha series which gave a kick start to Indian comics. He was also behind Tinkle, another famous cartoon character children magazine series in India.

Amar Chitra Katha was based on stories from Indian mythology, old folk tales and on historical characters and taught children virtues of life. The series still finds relevance in modern world and continues to sell more than 3 million copies every year.

Anant Pai was born on 17th Sep 1929 in Karkala, Karnataka and died on 24th Feb 2011 in Mumbai at the age of 81.
