In third major train accident in less than 2 months, 15 people were feared killed and over 100 injured when two trains collided at Arrakonam station near Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
Chennai Beach to Vellore train was waiting for its signal at Malappalam station. Arrakonam Katpadi passenger train rammed into the stationary train at 9.30 p.m. At least five bogies of the two trains derailed after the crash.
Injured have been rushed to the Arakkonam Govt hospital. National Disaster Relief Force have been rushed to the spot for rescue operations. But rescue is not going to be easy because of darkness and rain.
Railway Minister and Govt on their behalf is busy doing what they do best. Rs. 5 lakh will be given to kin of the dead and 1 lakh to those critically injured and Rs 25000 to those with minor injuries. What’s weird is that train accidents keep happening at an alarming pace and instead of trying to prevent that, Govt thinks paying the tax payer money to injured victims will solve the issue.
