Anna factor marks Hisar by-polls, Bishnoi leads

Anna Hazare factor was written large on the Hisar by-poll results as his anti-corruption campaign against the Congress saw the Congress candidate slump to third place.

After seven rounds of counting, Kuldeep Bishnoi of Haryana Janhit Congress-Bharatiya Janata Party alliance is leading over his nearest rival Ajay Chautala of Indian National Lok Dal. Bishnoi is son of former CM Bhajan Lal while Ajay is son of former CM Om Prakash Chautala. The Hisar seat had become vacant after the death of MP Bhajan Lal.

Congress candidate Jai Parkash has hardly been able to make a mark in the polls. Team anna campaigned against corruption by Congress and all eyes were set on seeing if voters follow Anna’s advice or not. The trends that are emerging from Hisar by-polls are very damaging for Congress. If the Jan Lokpal bill is not introduced soon, and Anna continues to campaign against Congress, the party may end up losing state assembly elections in 2012 in Punjab, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
